To start off, I’m going to say that this is solely based on what YOUR PHARMACIST will allow you to do / wont do.
1.) Can a CPhT dispense a CII Drug?
Yes, a CPhT can. The question is; Will the Pharmacist allow them? Most likely not as its too much on the CPhT’s shoulders. What happens if there is a mis-count? or some go missing? Who is to blame? Ultimately, the Pharmacist, or whomever counted the drug. CII’s should be counted atleast 3-4 times and even BACK COUNTED. Of course, Cross-Referenced into your CII Dispense logs as well.
2.) Can a CPhT recommend a drug?
No, a CPhT can’t. ONLY a Pharmacist can recommend a drug; no matter how long you’ve worked in the field or how many times you’ve heard the answer to that question.
3.) Can a CPhT transfer a prescription?
No, CPhT’s can not Transfer them; however, they can receive transfer ins. Only a Ph can transfer a drug out.
4.) Can a CPhT decide whether or not to fill a drug for a ‘drug-abusing’ patient?
No, You can’t decide this. You CAN decide whether or not to fill this drug a few days early.
5.) What happens if your Pharmacist is mal-practicing?
In short, If you know your Ph is not practicing truthfully and honestly; You can send a report to the Pharmacist Association Board to have that pharmacist potentially banned from pharmacy. (IE: A Pharmacist decides Jane Doe doesn’t really need a drug (OxyCodone) and lies to the doctor about not having the drug (when you clearly do).) This pharmacist risks his/her license as well as the CPhT’s license. If you are in this sort of environment, REPORT the Pharmacist and / or GET OUT FAST!
I’ll come up with some more as I think of them. Good Luck ![]()
